Life is like a car, it goes where we point it. Our focus is like tuning into a radio station, podcast or television program. When we consume stuff online it creates an inner conversation.
Watching political updates about the horrible things horrible people do and say for example could generate inner dialogues something like “OMG! I hate that person! He/she makes me so angry!” or “the world is so messed up! So unfair!”. We may be addressing what we are watching but our brain doesn’t know the difference. It hears us describing our entire view of life! And it resonates and ripples across all areas of our life in ways that hold us back from living as our happiest healthiest selves.
All that anger, frustration, fear and distrust we consume each day creates a type of anchor in our lives that keep us stuck when we really want to be sailing forward to our goals.
And when we have these inner conversations about the things that make us angry, afraid or both, our brain produces Cortisol a hormone that has proven links to a plethora of physical health risks. We are literally damaging our health as we consume this fear laden outrage inducing media content every day on our app timelines.
But Joseph you’re saying (because I’ve heard this a lot before), we need to know what evil rotten stuff is going on in the world so we can change it! You want me to put my head in the sand and pretend it isn’t…
